Wayfront App

Wayfront works as an installable app on your phone, tablet, or computer. Once installed, it looks and feels like a native app: its own icon on your home screen, push notifications for messages, orders, tickets, and more, and a badge showing your unread notification count.

No app store download required. It works right from your browser, on any device.

Why Install the App?

You can always use Wayfront in your browser, but installing it gives you a few extras:

- Push notifications. Get notified instantly when a client sends a message, an order status changes, or you're mentioned in a conversation. No need to keep the browser tab open.

- Home screen icon. Launch Wayfront with a single tap, just like any other app.

- Full-screen experience. The app runs without the browser toolbar, so you get more screen space.

- Badge count. See how many unread notifications you have right on the app icon.

Installing on iPhone & iPad

When you visit your Wayfront portal on an iPhone or iPad, you may see an "Install Our App" prompt automatically. If you don't, you can install it manually:

1. Open your Wayfront portal URL in Safari. This only works in Safari on iOS. Chrome and Firefox on iOS don't support app installation.

2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.

3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen".

4. You'll see the app name and icon. Tap Add in the top-right corner.

5. The app now appears on your home screen. Tap it to open Wayfront in full-screen mode.

Tip: Once installed, the app will prompt you to enable push notifications. We recommend enabling them so you don't miss client messages.

Installing on Android

1. Open your Wayfront portal URL in Chrome.

2. You should see an "Add to Home Screen" banner at the bottom of the screen. Tap Install.

3. If you don't see the banner, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner and select "Install app" or "Add to Home screen".

4. Tap Install to confirm.

5. The app now appears in your app drawer and home screen.

Installing on Desktop (Mac & Windows)

1. Open your Wayfront portal URL in Chrome or Edge.

2. Look for the install icon (a small monitor with a download arrow) in the address bar. You can also click the three-dot menu and select "Install Wayfront".

3. Click Install to confirm.

4. The app opens in its own window and is added to your applications.

Enabling Push Notifications

Push notifications are the main reason to install the app. They let you know about new messages, order updates, and mentions even when you're not looking at Wayfront.

To enable push notifications:

1. Go to your Profile page (click your avatar in the top right, then "Profile").

2. Find the "Enable push notifications in this browser" toggle.

3. Turn the toggle on.

4. Your browser will ask for permission to send notifications. Click Allow.

5. That's it. You'll start receiving notifications immediately.

Note: Push notifications are enabled per device. If you use Wayfront on your phone and your laptop, you'll need to enable notifications on each device separately.

If you installed the app on iOS but don't see the toggle, make sure you're running iOS 16.4 or later. Apple added push notification support for web apps in that version.

What Triggers a Push Notification?

Every in-app notification that you have enabled in your notification settings also triggers a push notification on your device. This includes:

- New messages. When a client or team member sends a message on an order or ticket.

- Mentions. When someone @mentions you in a conversation.

- Order status changes. When an order moves to a new status.

- New orders and tickets. When a new order is placed or a support ticket is opened.

- Invoice events. Payment received, invoice overdue, etc.

The notification shows a preview of the message (the first few lines) so you can decide whether to open it right away or come back to it later. Tapping the notification takes you straight to the relevant order, ticket, or page.

Badge Count

When you have unread notifications, the app icon on your home screen shows a badge with the count, just like email or messaging apps. The count updates automatically each time a new notification arrives.

Opening the notification in Wayfront clears it from the count.

To disable push notifications, go back to your Profile page and flip the toggle off. This stops notifications for that device only. Other devices are unaffected.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the install prompt

On Android and desktop, the browser shows the install prompt automatically, but only once. If you dismissed it, use the browser menu to install manually (three-dot menu → "Install app").

On iPhone/iPad, you can use the Share button → "Add to Home Screen" in Safari.

Push notifications aren't working

- Check the toggle. Go to Profile and make sure the push notification toggle is on.

- Check browser permissions. Make sure you clicked "Allow" when your browser asked for notification permission. If you clicked "Block" by mistake, you'll need to reset it in your browser's site settings.

- iOS version. Push notifications on iPhone/iPad require iOS 16.4 or later, and the app must be installed to the home screen via Safari.

- Do Not Disturb. Check that your device isn't in Do Not Disturb or Focus mode.

The toggle says "not supported"

You'll see a "not supported" message if:

- You're using a browser that doesn't support push notifications.

- On iPhone/iPad, you're browsing in Safari instead of using the installed home screen app. Push notifications on iOS only work when Wayfront is added to your home screen.

I installed the app but it just opens the website

Make sure you installed it from the correct URL (your portal's custom domain or yourworkspace.wayfront.com). If you installed from a different URL, the app may not launch in standalone mode.

For Workspace Admins: Setting Up PWA Branding

When your clients install the app, it shows your branding, not Wayfront's. Here's how to configure it:

App icon

Go to Settings and upload an App Icon. This is the icon that appears on your clients' home screens. Use a square image, ideally 512×512 pixels. If you don't set one, it falls back to your site favicon.

App name

The app name shown on the home screen comes from your Site Name setting. Keep it short. Long names get truncated on mobile devices.

Custom domain

If you've set up a custom domain, the app installs under that domain. The app icon, name, and URL all reflect your brand. Your clients won't see any Wayfront branding.

Tip: Test the installation yourself before telling your clients about it. Install the app on your own phone, enable push notifications, and send a test message to make sure everything works end to end.
